Nestled within the lush rolling farmland Lancaster
County is the village were we reside.
Its a dreamlike place, taking you back 200 years in time. Theres
a spot high on
a hill where I go to relax and contemplate. From there I watch the simply
activities
of my neighbors daily lives. I can see farmer Eli Stolsfus plowing
the field with his
team of horses. In the meadow before me I watch bare footed children playing
on
the banks of a pond and fishing with sticks and string. They look like
theyre having
the time of there lives.
Coming down the winding hill, I can hear the clip-clop
of Mrs. Lapps horse and buggy.
She probably taking her produce to Saturdays market.
Folk in the village believe in working very hard.
John Martin one of the finest furniture maker
and craftsman in the county, is loading furniture onto his wagon with
the help of his sons.
The boys were taught his trade as soon as the were old enough to hold
a hammer. In the
distance I see the house of Rachel Leaman. She as well as many other Amish
women make quilts
in there homes. These quilts have beautiful, intricate patterns and are
really works of art.
In the future I will tell you more about my beloved neighbors...
